Light-harvesting, Light-thermal Conversion and Phase-change Thermal Storage Materials for Solar Energy

  Solar-thermal energy is one of the most important application approaches of solar radiation.1-3 But the intermittence of time and space solar irradiation is one intrinsic drawback.What”s more important is that the visible light of solar radiation cannot be directly or effectively applied because of low thermal efficiency.In order to resolve the above problems, we develpoment novel photothermal conversion phase-change materials for solar energy storage.4-6 The key strategy is that the colorants7, which were used as an effective light-to-heat convertor as a result ofnonradiative decay process (vibrational relaxation, internal conversion, and intersystem crossing) of the excited colorants under visible light irradiation, were intrduced into the phase change materials.The thermal energy from the photothermal conversion of visible light was stored by phase transition of phase change material.Therefore, the novel light-harvesting, light-thermal conversion and thermal storage materials for solar energy were achieved, and the materials have high visible light-to-heat conversion and storage efficiency.The obtained novel materials should have potential applications in renewable and clean energy sources.
