Selective Conversion of Carbohydrates to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural over Cr(salen)CI Complex
5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF),one of the most important renewable building blocks, has attracted much attention.Metal chloride salts including CrCl2、 CrCl3、 SnCl4 and GeCl4 together with ionic liquids are always employed as efficient catalytic systems for the transformation of carbohydrates to 5-HMF.However,these transition metals are toxic and apt to pollute the environment, and is difficult to be separated from the reaction system. In this work,a Cr (salen)Cl complex by coordinating the Schiff-base ligand with Cr was prepared for the first time, which showed relatively high stability as well as an acceptable 5-HMF yield of 29.2% from hydrolysis of glucose in ”EMIM””Cl”.
