Cooperative Monitoring BGP among Autonomous Systems
Cooperative monitoring BGP gives a more complete global view by sharing information among autonomous systems. It loosens the constraints from the autonomy and improves the effectiveness of a single autonomous system’s routing monitoring.A cooperative information sharing mechanism for inter-domain routing monitoring we proposes here is called CoISM,which addresses the key point of cooperative monitoring BGP,monitoring information sharing, based on the idea of selforganization.More specifically,CoISM controls and limits the information transmission scope by leveraging the data locality caused by BGP protocol, adds information reflection based on passive inquiry, makes use of the relativity in routing monitoring information to implement information push, and ultimately benefits autonomous systems from this spontaneous information sharing.CoISM drives autonomous systems to organize and aggregate monitoring information and share the information on demond.CoISM adopts a distributed architecture, which gives it high extensibility and low communication overhead. It does not affect BGP and supports incremental deployment. We believe there is a wide range of inter-domain cooperative management applications for this mechanism such as inter-domain monitoring, routing failure analysis, intrusion detection etc.
