Modeling service process of ductile cast iron cooling staves of blast furnace using 3-dimensional finite element method
Two kinds of inset brick ductile cast iron cooling staves including single-layer cooling staves and double-layer cooling staves were used on one blast furnace.The inside of single-layer cooling stave has four vertically-installed cooling pipes in parallel.Based on the structure of single-layer cooling stave,an S-shaped pipe equipped with an isolated water cooling system is added to the double-layer cooling stave.With the help of finite element analysis software Abaqus,two kinds of 3 -dimensional finite element models were developed separately on the basis of actual size to calculate the temperature and stress distribution of single-layer cooling staves and double- layer cooling staves at the beginning and middle of the service.The results show that as for single-layer cooling staves,the maximum tensile stress and compressive stress at the middle of service are obviously smaller than that at the beginning of service,while as for double-layer cooling staves,it is opposite.At either the beginning or the middle of service,the maximum tensile stress and compressive stress of the double-layer cooling staves are much smaller than that of the single-layer cooling staves.Furthermore,the tensile stress of the water pipe installed in the single-layer cooling staves is bigger than its tensile strength at the middle of service,while the tensile stress of the water pipe in the double-layer cooling staves is smaller than its tensile strength.Therefore,the service life of double-layer cooling staves is much longer than that of single-layer cooling staves.The temperature results of double-layer cooling staves at the beginning and middle of service are agreed with the actual data of blast furnace.These verify the accuracy and reliability of the model.
