Three-dimensional numerical study of temperature distribution in the freeboard of COREX melter gasifier
The freeboard temperature, which should be maintained within a certain range,is a key parameter for COREX melter gasifier operation. However,as a result of various reasons,it is required to block one or multiple oxygen burners to reduce the combustion heat.In present work,a three-dimensional mathematical model at steady state, which takes turbulence model into consideration,is developed to describe the flow and temperature distribution in the freeboard of COREX melter gasifier in detail. The accuracy of model is evaluated using plant operational data in terms of gas composition. The results show that the reducing gas temperature first increases and then decreases in the vertical direction of freeboard. The high temperature regions of more than 3 000 K appear in front of dust burners and oxygen burners respectively. The reducing gas temperature in the generator gas nozzle is about I 298 K,which meets actual production requirements. In addition, the effects of blocking one or multiple oxygen burners are further discussed.Compared with the situation where oxygen burners are fully open, the reducing gas temperature in the generator gas nozzle decreases by 53 K in case of fully closed oxygen burners. The results can be used to provide guidance for maintaining the stability of COREX melter gasifier freeboard temperature.
