Ferritic stainless steels development and localization for automotive exhaust system
In recent years,with attention paid to global environmental problems,exhaust emission regulations of automotive are enforced in each country to prevent air pollution.With the high requirements for continuous improvement of automobile fuel economy and exhaust gas purification rate.the restriction standard tends to become severer.The parts of automobile exhaust system in Europe,United states and Japan have been made of ultra-purity ferritic stainless steels( FSS) for low cost and high properties for example of superior heat resistance,small thermal expansion coefficients and corrosive resistance to meet the requirements for lighter weight and stricter regulations for exhaust gas.This paper introduces the construction of automotive exhaust systems and commonly used stainless steels are introduced and describes fertitic stainless steel development of Baosteel for automotive exhaust system.
