Energy saving solutions in a steel plant
Because of requirements for Greenhouse Gas ( GHG) reduction as well as energy savings,Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corporation ( TMEIC ) has developed new technologies for energy savings in a Steel Plant.TMEIC has been focusing on reducing not only the electrical power consumption but also other utility consumption such as water, thermal, gas, air, etc in a steel plant. In TMEIC ” s energy savings system, the predictive models of energy savings and energy management system have been applied to a hot strip mill line such as run out table pump system,Descaling pump system, and motor cooling fan system to achieve more efficient operation in addition to simple installation of inverters. In order to reuse low or middle temperature ( 100 - 400℃ ) thermal energy which is wasted in steel plant, heat recovery system called Organic Rankine Cycle system ( ORC system) has been supplied. In addition, the whole energy is optimized by TMEIC new technologies of demand predictive model and battery system.Totally TMEIC has developed the optimization system for whole steel energy consumption. In this paper,TMEIC ” s whole system for energy savings is introduced.First, the energy monitoring system and Data Base system are introduced, and then energy savings system utilizing modeling software is introduced with actual achievements.Next,ORC actual achievement is shown. Finally, optimization system and load equalization system in a steel plant using state of the art battery technology is being proposed.
