Advanced dedusting systems for a blast furnace cast house and a sinter plant at ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe

Meeting air quality standards can be ambitious in areas where steel production is located closed to residential areas.Through the introduction of an air quality programme ThyssenKrupp has successfully improved air quality in the surroundings of the Duisburg site.As a result annual PM 10 values are far below the limits.Recent major investments in air quality improvement were made with the new Blast Furnace No.8 and the revamping in the deduster at Sinter Plant No.2.Both were exclusively designed for optimal capture and cleaning of waste gas.At Blast Furnace 8 a completely new collection system was exclusively designed to minimize diffuse emissions.Revamping of the sinter plant and the introduction of a bag filter system was one result of an investigation which focused on the greatest contributing sources to ambient air.State of the art technology was applied to reduce PM 10 emissions from the sinter process and secondary sources. As a result of these measures, more than 20% of PM 10 emissions were reduced over the whole site.
