Speech Corpus-Based Study on Prosody in Drama Translation
(0) Based on Prosodic Theory in Phonology,the paper makes a tentative study upon the pitch pattern (F0) of the Chinese version of Death of a Salesman to investigate the translated dramas’ prosodic feature of performability.The features of pitch pattern respectively at pre-,middle and post-boundary prosodic word in the record speech are studied.According to the right discriminant ratio calculated,the communicative functions (CF) of the prosodic words,one of which determining sentence boundary,are studied.The results are contributed to showing performability of the versions in choosing proper words,emphasizing the focus of discourse,transmitting characters’ emotion and heightening the theme of drama.The combination of speech corpus and drama translation,on the one hand,can make up the lack of PF research based on speech experiment in drama translation.The most important is,it brings a brand new breakthrough to the research of drama translation.
