Properties and Curing Kinetics of C21-based Reactive Polyamides as Epoxy Curing Agents derived from Tung oil

  Three C21-based reactive polyamides with various amine values as epoxy curing agents were synthesized from tung oil and different polyamines such as diethylene triamine (DETA),triethylene tetramine (TETA) and tetraethylene pentamine (TEPA).The thermal and mechanical properties of cured products of C21-baesd polyamides and diglycidyl ether of bisphenol (DGEBA) were tested.It was found that the cured materials were superior to those cured by widely used C36-based polyamide in tensile strength,flexural strength and had better modulus.The glass transition temperatures of three cured C21-based polyamides,determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC),were found to be 108℃,109℃ and 116℃,which were about 50℃ higher than that of C36-based polyamides.The curing kinetics of C21-based polyamides in presence of DGEBA was studied by non-isothermal DSC technique at different heating rates.The kinetic parameters of the curing process were determined by isoconversional method given by Málek for the kinetic analysis of the data obtained by the thermal treatment.A two-parameter (m,n) autocatalytic model (?esták-Berggren Equation) was found to be the most suitable selected to describe the cure kinetics of the studied curing agents.The activation energy (Ea) values of three curing agents with DGEBA are dependent on the amine values of polyamides.The Ea of the curing reaction decreased as the primary amine values of the curing agents increased.Non-isothermal DSC curves obtained using the experimental data show a good agreement with that theoretically calculated ones.
