Effects of heat treatment conditions on the mechanical properties of mesophase pitch-derived carbon foams
Carbon foams using mesophase pitch as precursor were prepared at different pressures and temperatures.The micro-structures and mechanical properties of carbon foams were investigated by scanning electron microscopy and mechanical testing appa-ratus,respectively.The results showed that the pore size was small and much more uniform and the micro-cracks on the pore walls decreased with the increasing of the pressure and temperature.The compressive strength increased from 3.2 to 8.9 MPa when the foaming pressure increasing from 0.1 to 4 MPa.The compressive strength increased at beginning and then decreased with tempera-ture increasing,and the maximum value was 9.2 MPa at 460℃.
