Anti-Diabetic Herbal formula (ADHF) treatment NIDDM subject with poor control on conventional glucophage Multiple clinical investigation
To determine the efficacy of Anti diabetic herbal formula (ADHF) with placebo, on the metabolic control of NIDDM patients inadequately controlled on maximal doses of conventional oral agents.In a six-center investigation was conducted to determine including double-blind study,(ll7 with 108) NIDDM patients with control despite maximal doses of Glucophage were randomly assigned to receive additional treatment with ADHF 1.5g thrice daily or placebo for 6 months.Efficacy was assessed by changes in Blood glucose level, HbA1c,fasting and after 2-h 100g bread plasma glucose, fasting lipid levels and BMI (Body Mass Index).ADHF treatment was associated with significantly greater reductions in Blood glucose from 250 ±60mg/dl to 161±48mg/dl, 38% below 120mg/dl.Control group from 252±62mg/dl to 210±65mg/dl, 3.7% below 120mg/dl.ADHF group vs Control group P<0.01.HbA1c in ADHF group from13.11%±0.45% reduced to 7.51%±0.33%,Control group from 12.51%±0.61% reduced to 9.54%±0.60%.ADHF group vs Control group P<0.01.2-h 100g bread glucose: ADFH group 212±63mg/dl vs Control group 280±60mg/dl, P<0.01.BMI: ADHF group from 25.48±2.09 reduced to 24.15±2.00, Control group from 26.22±2.56 enhanced to 26.94±2.81.ADFH group vs Control group P<0.001.At ADHF group, the total cholesterol reduced to normal range was 23.05%, at Control group was 6.1%.ADHF group vs Control group P<0.01.At ADHF group, the triglyceride reduced to normal range was 28.68%; at Control group was 7.3%.ADHF group vs Control group P<0.01.In the study project,inadequately controlled on conventional oral glucophage, ADHF in moderate doses resulted in beneficial effects on glucemic control and most symptom of NIDDM.ADHF have no find side effects, especial has not hypoglycemia.Additional use of ADHF can be considered as a useful alternative in such patients if they are reluctant to accept insulin therapy.
