Toxicity of a novel anti-tumor agent 20(S)-ginsenoside Rg3:A 26-week Intramuscular repeated administration study in rats
The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential subchronic toxicity of a dammarane-type triterpenoid saponin with antitumor effect, 20(S)-Ginsenoside Rg3, by a 26-week repeated intramuscular administration in Wistar rats.20(S)-Ginsenoside Rg3 was administrated intramuscularly to both male and female rats (n =15 for male and female rats for each dose) at dose levels of 0, 4.2, 10.0 or 20.0 mg/kg/day.On week 13 of the treatment period, 4 rats/sex/group were sacrificed.On week 26 of the treatment period, 6 rats/sex/group were sacrificed.While 5 rats/sex/group were sacrificed after an 8-week recovery.
