Creating harmony across government is not as yet a notion familiar to labour inspectors in many countries, although the development of ”harmonious”labour relations at national, sector and enterprise levels is a time-honoured responsibility in many of them. One important role of labour inspection in any country is the promotion of compliance with ILO Conventions and Recommendations through national labour legislation and regulations, to achieve basic workers’rights, balanced socio-economic development, and sound industrial relations as a basis for constructive social dialogue, enhanced competitiveness and employability;and thus a positive investment climate.
