Propagation Characteristics of Jatropha curcas under Different Climate Conditions in Yunnan, China

Yunnan is rich in wild resources and plantation of Jatropha curcas in China. This paper studied the flowering, fruit setting, pollination, seeds biological characteristics of J.curcas.The results showed that the floral display of J.curcas often show protandry with the complete overlapping of female and male phase.Male flowers often blossom firstly, following by quick opening of female ones.Even after all the female flowers have blossomed totally, some of the male ones are still left un-open.However, the floral display often showed protandry under water stress, while most of the female flowers blossom after most male flowers finish opening.Flower visitors are mainly bees, flies, beetles, ants, butterflies, and bugs. Most of J curcas plants have two crops, with the first crop the most important commercially.Individual fruits increase with declined planting density, and increasing soil fertilizer content and water regimes.Seeds characteristics are different among different producing areas.Correlation analysis showed that correlation between KOC, HGW, HKW and local accumulated temperature below 7000 ℃ is positive. While above 7000 ℃, the correlations is negative. There are no evident correlations between HGW, HKW, and accumulated temperatures.
