Polyvascular Atherombotic Risk
Background Prior vascular disease markedly increases the risk of new atherothrombosis in either the same or different arterial territory. This cross vascular risk at a population level is rarely reported. We derived sex and age—specific risk ratios (RRs) for first—ever/recurrent hospitalisations for each arterial territory in people with compared to without other vascular history (OVH) in all Western Australians aged 35-84years from 2005-2007.Methods Linked hospitalisations for all atherothrombotic diagnoses at discharge were obtained between 1990-2007.Atherothrombosis was classified by arterial territory,as recurrent/first—ever,and OVH according to prior hospitalisations in the same or other arterial territory in the previous 15-years.Sex and l0-year age—specific rates were determined and Poisson regression used to estimate RRs.
