Effect of probucol before percutatneous coronary intervention on periprocedural myocardial infarction
Background Periprocedural myocardial infarction (MI) is an independent predictor of adverse clinical outcomes.Oxidant injury is one of the most important mechanism of periprocedural MI.Objective this study was to explore whether antioxidant probucol before procedure is able to affect the incidences of periprocedural MI in patients undergoing elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).Methods In this prospective, singlecenter, randomized study,280 patients were randomized into two groups:the probucol group (n=143),who received probucol 250mg BID 3 days before procedure, versus control group (n=137),which received routine treatment. The primary endpoint was the incidence of periprocedural MI,defined as the elevation of elevation of cardiac enzymes (CKMB or cTNI) more than three times the 99th centile upper reference limit within 24 hours after the procedure.
