HIV Sentinel Surveillance Among Male Long-Distance Truck Drivers in One City of China,2010
”Objectives” The focus of this study was to determine the prevalence,risk behavior and knowledge of HIV among long-distance trucker drivers.”Methods” We asked participants about their risk behaviors,knowledge of HIV,and we screened them for HIV,hepatitis C,and syphilis.All the analyses were conducted using SPSS version 18.0.”Results” 400 drivers who were recruited from the long-distance truck drivers distribution center participated in this survey,and the rate of HIV awareness was 90.3%.31.8% (127/400) drivers had sex with female commercial sex workers (FCSW) in the latest one year.No participant had sex with man and no driver injected drug.The prevalence of syphilis was 0.5%,and no participant was infected with HIV and Hepatitis C.”Conclusions” More studies need to be done to monitor the trend of HIV prevalence among long-distance truck drivers in the future,even though there was a high rate of HIV awareness and low prevalence of HIV in this study.
