Potential for utilization of the DHA-rich phospholipids from egg of squid Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis
Phospholipid classes and its fatty acid compositions in the egg of the squid Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis were assessed for appraisal as a possible new source of phospholipids. The total lipids content was 6.2 ± 0.4 %.Phospholipids were 72.0±3.2 % of total lipids. An HPLC-ELSD analysis was carried to determine the classes and the quantities of the phospholipids. The result showed that the major phospholipid was phosphatidylcholine(67.50±.55 % % of total phospholipids).Docosahexaenoic acid(22∶6n-3)was rich in the phospholipids fraction (33.3 ± 1.6 mol %)and in phosphatidylcholine(40.0 ± 0.4 mol %).
