A Computer-aided Automated Design Process for HVAC&R Products
Through the review of a conventional air-conditioning design process,it is concluded that a large portion of engineering cost in the design process can actually be reduced. The paper therefore introduces a computer-aided automated design process for HVAC&R products. The new process utilizes verified and validated software tools to conduct both the component-level and the system-level design optimization.Optimization routines such as multi-objective optimization techniques allow users to obtain the entire Pareto (optimal) solutions instead of a single design from the conventional design process.Other techniques such as parallel parameterized computational fluid dynamics can assist users to rapidly conduct computational fluid dynamics analyses while significantly reducing the engineering time. When the parallel parameterized computational fluid dynamics is coupled with the genetic algorithms and approximation assisted optimization, they significantly reduce the computation cost and more over, enable the optimization of novel components and systems. The automated design process can lead to a series of optimized system designs that meet the design objectives and constraints, and thus provide engineers with a wide range of choices for different requirements.
