A New Passive Scalar Transport Sub-grid Scale Model and its Application in Building Environment
SUMMARY:Numerical simulation is meaningful for understanding the fluid flow in high Reynolds and heat transfer around buildings for reasonable architecture layouts. As we know large-eddy simulation (LES) has been successful in predicting turbulent flows,so it is possible using LES to calculate the flow or the heat transfer around or between buildings.Unfortunately, the energy distribution around buildings is passive or the temperature herein is a passive scalar. The existing sub-grid scale (SGS) models in LES are not suitable for calculating passive scalar field. Therefore,in this paper a new passive scalar SGS transport model, named S-L SGS model, has been proposed for calculating the flow and heat transfer around buildings. The feasibility of the S-L SGS model was verified against experimental data in literature. The flow and the heat transfer around a supposed building is examined with the proposed model. The results show the vortex street phenomenon and some special behavior of the scalar field independent on velocity can be observed with the model given in the present study.
