Enhancements in mechanical and physical properties of polymers by micro-and nano-fillers
The weaknesses of polymers limiting their wide applications are their low mechanical and physical properties.It is thus necessary to improve their mechanical and physical properties including strength,modulus,fracture resistance,wear resistance,thermal conductivity,thermal expansion,electrical conductivity and photoluminescence etc to expand their applications.Microand nano-sized fillers such as carbon nanotubes,graphene nanosheets,silver nanofibers,micro-sized silver platelets,silica nanoparticles,sub-micro-sized nickel particles and ZnO quantum dots etc can be used to improve these mechanical and physical properties of polymers.In this work,previous works on enhancements in the mechanical and physical properties of polymers such as epoxy,polyaniline,polyimide and silicone erc are summarized.1-5 It is shown that the mechanical and physical properties of polymers can be effectively modified by incorporation of these microand nano-sized fillers at proper contents due to the excellent mechanical and physical properties of these micro-and nano-sized fillers.
