Study on Mutagenic and Antimutagenic Effects of Jinkui Shenqi Tang

This paper reports on the mutagenic and antimutagenic effects of the Chinese herbal formula Jinkui Shenqi Tang. The frequency of sister chromatid exchange (SCE) and micronuclei (MN) of the bone marrow ceils of ICR purebred mice were used as indices.Five groups were set up in every experiment.Group l was the negative control group.Three groups were given varied doses of Jinkui Shenqi Tang.Group2 was given 0.125 mL,Group3 0.25 mL,and Group4 0.5 mL.Group5 was a positive control group.Research on both mutagenic and antimutagenic effects was carried out.The results of the mutagenic tests were as follows:the frequency of SCE and MN of Group2,3 and 4 was within normal limits and not as high as the determinable positive indices.Compared with Group 1,there was no significant difference (p>0.05).Compared with Group5,there was a striking difference (p<0.05).This indicated that Jinkui Shenqi Tang did not induce any mutation. The results of the antimutagenic tests showed that the frequency of SCE and MN of Groups2,3 and 4 were all markedly lower than that of Group 5 (p<0.05).This showed that Jinkui Shenqi Tang had antimutagenic effects or had preventative or curative effects at gene and subcellular levels.
