Poverty Reduction-An Introduction of Nepal
More than two thirds of the world”s poor are in Asia,with South Asia alone accounting for nearly half of them (IFAD 2001).Nepal is one of the poorest countries in South-Asia.Although,poverty alleviation has been one of the top priorities for the national development since 1976,but still poverty is widespread,persistent and also an acute problem in Nepal.Nepal Living Standard Survey (NLSS) Ⅱ conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics in 2003/04 shows that 31 per cent of the total population lives below the poverty line.Country”s 10% of the population takes 50% of the wealth resources and facilities; the bottom 40% takes just 10%.Poverty is concentrated in the remote village,uplands and mountains,the landless,dalits (or Scheduled Castes) and small and marginal farmers.
