Screening and Identification of Aerobic Denitrifying Bacterial Strains from Drinking Source Water,East China
With the increasing nitrogen pollution in environmental waters in China, aerobic denitrifiers has been on the focus of research in nitrogen removal. However, the research of aerobic denitrifiers in slightly polluted oligotrophic water is rare though the nitrogen pollution in drinking source water is serious. In this work, one hundred and eighty-two bacterial strains were isolated from the sediments of drinking water reservoir.Five efficient aerobic denitrifiers were selected and the total inorganic nitrogen removal efficiency of these strains could reach above 95% in 16h when the dissolved oxygen level maintained at 6~8mg/L,pH 7.0~7.5,28±2C,and there was no accumulation of nitrite. These strains exhibited efficient heterotrophic nitrification-aerobic denitrification ability, with maximum NH4+-N and NO3--N removal rate of 7.2mg/L/h and 13.3mg/L/h,respectively.Besides these, six strains were found whose nitrogen removal efficiency can reach above 70% at 11±1 ℃ with no accumulation of nitrite. These strains were identified as Pseudomonas mendocina,Pseudomonas nitroreducens,Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes, and Pseudomonas sp.etc.based on the analysis of their 16S rRNA gene sequence. Results showed that these efficient aerobic denitrifiers favored the bioremediation of reservoir ecosystems, and aerobic denitrifiers may be excellent candidates for aerobic slightly polluted water treatment.
