Nitrification in a Model Distribution System Fed with Reclaimed Water
The purpose of this study was to characterize nitrification occurred in a reclaimed water distribution system (DS) and the population size of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria(AOB) and nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) distributed along the flow course.Series connection of four CDC biofiln reactors was used to simulate a reclaimed water distribution system, which was set up near the finished water tank of Qingyuan Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Ltd.,Co in Xi”an to draw the reclaimed water directly as influent for this experiment. The result showed that a mean removal of ammonia nitrogen attained 85.0% and a stable increase of nitrate appeared during operation of 239 days when the influent concentration of NH4+-N was 5.2 lmg/L averagely, which meant nitrification did happen in this model DS fed with reclaimed water.
