Isolation and characterization of Caulobacter crescentus FMC1,a facultative mesophilic cellulolytic bacterium from sediments in a large shallow freshwater lake
While aerobic and anaerobic of bacteria and fungal organisms have been widely explored as sources of cellulases and hemicellulases for biomass degradation, facultative cellulolytic bacteria have received less attention. In this study, sediments in a large shallow freshwater lake was enriched with amendment of submerged macrophyte Potamogeton malaianu, and a facultative, mesophilic and cellulolytic bacterium was isolated through Hungate roll-tube technique. The isolate was Gram-negative and short rod shaped.Phylogenetic analyses of 16S rRNA sequencing revealed that the isolate was related to Caulobacter crescentus.
