Effectiveness of combined testosterone undecanoate with tamoxifen citrate treatment in men with idiopathic azoospermia or serious oligozoospermia
Objective:To assess the effect of treatment with a combination of the tamoxifen citrate and testosterone undecanoate on sperm variables in men with idiopathic azoospermia or oligozoospermia.Design:Retrospective,self control trial.Participants:four men with idiopathic azoospermia and eight men with idiopathic oligozoospermia Interventions:All patients were treated with testosterone undecanoate,80mg/d and tamoxifen citrate,20mg/d.Couple counseling was part of the intervention in all participants.Main Outcome Measure(s):Sperm characteristics and pregnancy incidence every month after 1 and 4 months medication.Result(s):Tamoxifen citrate plus T undecanoate treatment produced a satisfactory improvement of total sperm number,motility after 2 and 3 months whereas FSH,LH in serum increased after treatment.Conclusion:These results indicate that the combination of tamoxifen citrate with T undecanoate could improve significantly sperm count.The combination deserves a place as a first line of treatment in spermatogenic arrest.
