Diabetes Education in South Korea

Diabetes educators work as part of an interdisciplinary team that includes the patient at the center of the team.To conduct a thorough education and develop an individualized education plan, basic knowledge about diabetes mellitus and effective nutrition assessment skills are essential.Learning barriers, educational and professional background, existing co-morbidities,readiness to learn, and degree of family and/or social support should all be considered in order to deliver an effective diabetes education.A coordinated team approach is useful due to this multifaceted nature of diabetes management.Whenever possible, team members should include a registered nurse,a registered dietitian, and a doctor. In some hospitals and clinics, psychologists, social workers, pharmacists,or exercise physiologists are also included.
