Integration of Pharmacotherapy and Non-Pharmacotherapy

Pharmacotherapy has been the predominant form of therapy for human diseases and disorders since the early onset of human kind. In earlier days, drugs were given in medical, religious, aesthetic, recreational and magical ways in the shape of herbs, potions and mixtures. As pharmacotherapy grew with scientific advancement, the more pure, homogeneous, and of limited benefit, pharmacotherapy became.Although diseases were controlled with pharmacotherapy, total healing still remained unachieved. Even from earlier days eclectic physicians were using non-pharmacotherapies with pharmaeotherapies to bring better therapeutic success and better healing. In recent years we have accepted the holistic approach of treatment for human suffering and this approach has ignited and accelerated the integration of pharmacotherapies with non-pharmacotherapies. Besides, the acceptance of bio, psycho, socio and ecological bases of human diseases have clearly pointed that for total recovery every basis and every etiological factor should be treated by a holistic approach of therapies. Thus, present day management of human diseases demands and requires the integrated treatment of pharmacotherapy with non-pharmacotherapy for the complete recovery of suffering patients. This paper will describe the various ways of the integration of holistic treatment methods of today and of the future.
