Brine shrimp toxicity and chemical analysis of toxic parts of Curcuma longa
The rhizome of Curcuma longa Linn.has been widely used as food additive as well as folk medicine in south-east Asia.It was traditionally used as remedy for stomach dysfunction in Chinese Dai Ethanomedicine for centuries.There have been some chemical and pharmacological reports on the rhizome of C.longa cultivated in India and several provinces in China”1,2”.Chemical difference has been observed among the materials collected from place to place,for example,the major component of essential oil of C.longa harvested in Butan and Guangxi were identified as α-turmerone,a-curcumene respectively”3,4”.There is few research reports on this plant cultivated in Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna which was the main resource for Dai Ethanomedicine.
