The Application of N Stable Isotope for Discriminating between Organic and Conventional Coriander
A greenhouse research was conducted to investigate the effect of different kind of fertilizer on δ15N of coriander and the mechanism of N isotope fractionation during its growth process.Four kinds of treatments were involved in the experiment:organic fertilizer group (OFG),chemical fertilizer group (CFG),mixed group (MG) and blank group (BG).In this study, organic fertilizer was chicken manure (δ15N =+9.038‰) and chemical fertilizer was urea (δ15N =-1.122‰). Some samples at 30,45 and 60 days of growth were collected and their δ15N values were detected.During the whole growth process, significant differences (P<0.05) among different treatments were found. At 30 days of growth, the δ15N values of coriander were +4.356 ‰ for OFG,-0.072‰ for CFG,+1.236‰ for MG,and+4.126 for BG,respectively. At 60 days of growth, the δ15N values of coriander were +4.161‰ for OFG,+0.701‰ for CFG,+1.291‰ for MG,and+3.412 for BG,respectively. The differences were becoming smaller and smaller with the growth of plants, but were still significant even at 60 days of growth, almost the maturity time for coriander. In conclusion, nitrogen isotope is a good screening tool to discriminate organic and conventional coriander.
