Thermodynamic assessment of the Al-Bi-Mg system
The Al-Bi-Mg ternary system had been assessed by adopting the modified quasi-chemical models to describe the liquid phase.In general considerations of the development of the thermodynamic database of the multi-component Mg-based alloys and the consistency of the thermodynamic models of the related phase,the Al-Bi-Mg ternary system was re-assessed by means of the CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagram)technique and the Thermo-Calc software.All the solutions and the intermetallic compounds in the Al-Bi-Mg ternary system were assumed as binary ones except the Mg-rich terminal solution Hcp_A3 phase and the liquid phase.The substitutional solution model,(Al,Bi,Mg),and the associate model,(Al,Bi,Bi2Mg3,Mg),were chosen to describe the Hcp_A3 phase and the liquid phase,respectively.A set of self-consistent thermodynamic parameters of the Al-Bi-Mg system was obtained and the experimental phase equilibrium data were well reproduced by the calculated results using the optimized thermodynamic data.
