Thermodynamic modeling of the Ca-Cu binary system
On the basis of the experimental thermochemical and phase equilibrium data, the phase diagram of the Ca-Cu binary system has been re-assessed using the CALPHAD technique. The liquid phase is modeled as a solution phase using the Redlich-Kister equation. The intermetallic compounds CaCu and Ca2Cu with no solubility ranges are treated as strict stoichiometry compounds by the formula CanCum.The homogeneity range of the intermediate phase CaCus is considered, which is treated as two-sublattice model in this study. After re-optimization,a set of self-consistent thermodynamic parameters has been obtained. The presently obtained invariant reaction L+CaCu5(<->)CaCu is more consistent with the experimental data instead of the literature reported one L (<->)CaCu+CaCu5.
