Phase Equilibria in the Al-Fe-Gd System at 773 K
The phase equilibrium of the Al-Fe-Gd plays an important role of development of bulk amorphous alloys and magnetocaloric materials.The isothermal section of the phase diagram for the Al-Fe-Gd ternary system at 773 K has been investigated by means of x-ray powder diffraction (XRD),scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive analysis (EDX) and optical microscopy (OM).The existences of 13 binary compounds i.e.AlFe3,AlFe,Al2Fe,AlsFe2,and Al13Fe4 in the Al-Fe binary system,Al3Gd,Al2Gd,AlGd,Al2Gd3,and AlGd2 in the Al-Gd binary system,and α-Fe17Gd2,Fe3Gd,and Fe2Gd in the Fe-Gd binary system were confirmed.
