Synthesis and fluorescent properties of 3HNA-doped PMMA composites

The composites of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid (3HNA) were prepared by in situ polymerization. The effect of polar solvent N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) on the fluorescent properties ofthe composites was investigated by fluorescence emission spectrum. The results indicate that the 3HNA-doped PMMA exhibits dual emissions, which are corresponding to the normal or large Stokes-shifted fluorescence of 3HNA and the excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT),respectively. The intensity of Stokes-shifted emission changes regularly with the concentration of 3HNA-doped PMMA in DMAe.
