Elemental imaging of the mineral sample by the laser ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry

The surface elemental imaging system was developed based on the laser ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LI-TOF-MS),which can be applied to analyze all-element simultaneously and sensitively, including metals and non-metals.Metal imaging is proved to be a powerful tool to investigate the metal element distribution on the biological samples, while nonmetal elements remain still difficult to measure.1 As an alternative, all elements including metals and nonmetals can be detected simultaneously and sensitively for newly developed LI-TOF-MS though ion yield is not high enough by using current nanosecond laser.
