Changes of the erythromycin resistance to Gram-positive cocci isolated in a teaching hospital in China
Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that has an antimicrobial spectrum similar to or slightly wider than that of penicillin,and is often used for people who have an allergy to penicillins.This study was to investigate erythromycin resistance to Gram-positive cocci isolated in a teaching hospital in China during the past 8 years.Disk diffusion test was used to study the antimicrobial resistance.The data were analyzed by WHONET 5 software according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI).The rates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative Staphylococci (MRCNS) were 50.8％～83.3 ％ and 79.4％～81.5 ％ during the past 8 years,respectively.The resistance of methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA),MRSA,methicillin-sensitive coagulase-negative Staphylococci (MSCNS),MRSCS,Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium to erythromycin were 60.0％～81.7％,87.1％～96.5％,52.6％～74.5％,89.4％～96.3％,73.8％～92.6％and 88.4％～96.7％ during the past 8 years in the teaching hospital.Overall,the resistance rates of MRSA and MRCNS to erythromycin were higher than those of MSSA and MSCNS in 8 consecutive years in the teaching hospital.Erythromycin resistance to Gram-positive cocci had increased in recent 8 years.Monitoring of erythromycin resistance to Gram-positive cocci should be strengthened.The change of the antimicrobial resistance should be investigated in order to guide rational drug usage in the clinic and prevent bacterial strain of drug resistance from being transmitted.
