Minimization of Drive Tests and Its Enhancement in LTE-Advanced
Drive test(”)has been extensively used in GSM and 3G networks to investigate the network performance.However,it leads to high network maintenance cost and emission of CO2.Besides,it is not able to provide measurements where drive test cannot be performed.To solve these problems,Minimization of Drive Tests (MDT) is introduced for (E-)UTRA.Instead of requiring testers” involvement,MDT enables network to automatically collect measurements performed by commercial terminals and base stations,e.g.RSRP/RSRQ,throughput,etc.In this article,we introduce some important features about Release 10 MDT,including use cases,measurement modes,and how to obtain location information.In addition,we summarize some new features,such as QoS verification and enhancements addressed in the ongoing standardization of Release 11 MDT.
