Ethnic, Regional and Urban Biases in China: Evidence from Nutritional Status, 1985-2005
Differences in the standard of living and welfare between China”s ethnic minorities and the dominant Han Chinese population is frequently attributed to Han bias against minority populations. There are certain ”sensitive regions” where tension has boiled over into what Beijing defines as separatist or terrorist actions. The focus of this paper is to test whether there is a significant difference between the welfare of ethnic minorities and the Han.
