Training for worker safety representatives in coal mines
The role of the worker safety representative is essential for effective safety organisation. In coal mining this function has a long history. In the UK the role of ‘workmen”s inspector” was created originally in 1872.Since then legislative changes, normally in response to large-scale mine disasters, have created a well-structured system of statutory safety inspection, including a statutory role for pit safety supervisors (deputies) and a statutory role for worker inspectors,as well as for management and government inspection.
