Comments on Video Compression Standards

Since H.261 in 1988, many video compression standards are recommended. Among which,MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 are the most successful ones in the consumer electronic market.When approaching to the time schedule of sending digital TV to family, H.264/AVC announces its high performance than MPEG-2,how can industry prepare to meet with so many new outcome standards?
