How to Survive as a Teacher of English at College?

It seems that the curriculum of College English as a foreign language has come to a crossroads where it encounters a confluence of complaints, challenges, expectations and frustrations.Concerning this,we wonder:how can we survive as a teacher of English at college? The answer cannot be found in our blindness or carelessness but in our mindfulness at the crossroads. To continue to survive,it is imperative that we examine the challenges to us and in the meanwhile ”know thyself” as a teacher of the target language. The joint mission at the crosswords can be basically accomplished by trying to answer the urgent question at this critical moment from the fundamental perspectives as follows:language and the use of language; thought and language; the knowledge of language and of the world; language and the teacher of language; and the teacher of language and building of a valuable English course.Such perspectives can serve as prisms through which the learning and teaching of College English are filtered and redefined for our self-renewal.If our self-improvement is stagnant, then the future looks grim.
