Development of Hydropower Machines for Pumped Storage Projects at Voith Siemens Hydro

Voith Siemens Hydro develops,designs and supplies pumped storage equipment with more than hundred years of experience.The increasing demand for peaking power and the request for more flexibility in the electrical grid system are creating an attractive market for pumped storage power plants.This paper presents typical projects developed by Voith Siemens Hydro in the recent past.It shows examples for three different solutions for pumped storage power plants.These are:a) new features for classical pump storage units,b) a variable speed solution for the pump turbine unit and last but not least c) a reversible fix speed pump turbine with an ultra-wide operation range.
