3D Mesh Skeleton Extraction Using Prominent Segmentation
This paper describes a novel and unified approach for 3D mesh skeleton extraction using prominent segmentation and discrete geodesic path. The key idea of our algorithm is to straight folded prominent branch up by the Multi-dimensional scaling transformation,as well as the prominent mesh feature points are computed.Based on the meaningful segmentation,we define Node-ring of all segmented components by discrete geodesic path on mesh surface. The skeleton of every prominent segmented components is the link the center of the Node-ring,which overcomes the noise and is invariant both to the pose of the model and to different proportions between the model”s components. And the ks-principal curve is used to fit the skeleton of core component without prominent shape feature. The skeleton got by our algorithm is invariant to the pose of model, because the mesh is transformed into a pose-invariant representation, based on the multi-dimensional scaling (MDS) transformation.
