Start-up and Optimization of a Sequencing Batch Biofilm Reactor (SBBR) Based on an Intelligent Controlling System

A Sequencing Batch Biofilm Reactor (SBBR) based on an intelligent controlling system was designed and constructed to treat the domestic sewage.The experimental results showed that the removal efficiencies of NH3 - N and COD increased during the start - up period and after 30 days” operation,the removal efficiencies of NH3 - N and CODreached 97.87% and 97.52% respectively.In order to determine the best operation condition of the SBBR,the performances under the hydraulic retention time (HRT)of 5,6,7 and 8 hours were evaluated.The results demonstrated that an adequately well treatment effectcould be achieved at the HRT of 7 hours.
