Tenax Extraction as a Tool to Evaluate Desorption of Sediment- Associated Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons-Phenanthrene from Contaminated
Transportation and bioavailability of sediment - associated contaminants are often controlled by the contaminants” desorbing behaviour.Desorption kinetics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from sediment in Tianjin were studied. The desorption kinetics data were generated using Tenax extraction and electrolyte extraction, and a first - order three - compartment kinetic model was fitted to the data. The values for the rapidly, slowly, very slowly desorbing fraction Fr,Fs,Fvs covered a range of 0.28,0.11,0.60 for phenanthrene during the Tenax extraction experiment, respectively. The values for Fr,Fs,Fvs were 0,14,0.08,0.77 for phenanthrene during the electrolyte extraction, respectively.Research results had shown that desorption from sediment in the Tenax extraction is faster than that in electrolyte extraction.
