Review of West Tai Lake Environmental Management and Treatment Plan
The purpose of the review was to identify opportunities to incorporate the best International practice into the environmental management and treatment of West Tai Lake. The study identified the need for a whole of Basin approach to the integrated management of nutrient inputs to the Lake and control of algal blooms.Phosphorous was identified as the key nutrient of concern for the receiving freshwater. The review recommended a range of specific projects to address the key gaps in the current plan and its implementation. The review identified opportunities to improve catchment management, pollution control and wastewater management technologies, environmental restoration and ongoing water quality monitoring strategies. The review recommended alternative methods to manage sewage sludge and optimum nutrient control strategies.Guidelines were also recommended for design and construction of.wetlands and for water sensitive urban design to control sediment and nutrients.
