Water Environmental Health Risk Assessment of Main Drinking Water Sources in Taihu Lake

Based on the routine quality monitoring data of main drinking water sources like Meilianghu lake,Zhushanhu Lake,Gong Lake,Xuhu Lake and Dongtaihu Lake,the Health Risk Assessment is carried out on pollution which results into main genic toxic substances and physical toxic substances by applying the model of water environmental health risk assessment (HRA).And the comprehensive assessment of these data by the method of comprehensive pollution index is compared with the risk value.The correlation between them ( p =0.88) can be gained.It is confirmed the model could have a reliable conclusion,good reference and dissemination value.The result shows that in all drinking water sources the total risk of pollution to health ranges from 3.9310-5 a-1 to 4.54 10-5 a-1 which is lower than the maximum acceptable value 5.0 10-5 a-1 recommended by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).However,it is relatively more serious than others in Meiliang lake.The total risk of pollution to health is close to the maximum acceptable value.And the total annual risk for an individual in terms of carcinogens caused by routine pollutants of drinking water ranges from 7.29 × 10-14 to 3.84 × 10-5a-1.The magnitude of the total annual risk for genic toxicant is Cr6+( 3.84.0× 10-5a-1) > As (6.67 × 10-6a-1) > Cd (6.3 × 10-7a-1).The magnitude for physical toxicant is NH3-N > Pb > Zn > CN-1 > FN > Hg > Se.In a word,the total annual risk for an individual caused by routine pollutants in the main drinking water sources in Tai Lake is getting close to the threshold value,which should be paid much more attention by relative administrations.
