Eco-City
(0) An interdisciplinary team developed a compendium of requirements for a sustainable city of exemplary character to earn the label of ”eco-city”:a fairly large community that assumes leadership in taking all requisite steps to sustainably secure the survival in beauty and dignity of humans and the biosphere;reduce the inequiteably high use of energy,non-renewable materials and environment in the industrialised countries to a level that can be justified vis-à-vis the developing countries and secures for everyone on this planet a fair share of the world”s resources;respect our natural and cultural heritage;ensure stewardship of the natural environment and human nature,which means taking account,in all decision-making,of man” s innate behaviours and cultural needs as regards humane habitats and social context;inspire the inhabitants of the eco-city with a cosmopolitan outlook that sets an example to the world in self-limitation,sharing and caring in response to the dangerous widening gap between North and South.The check-list sets standards for energy,traffic and transport,waste,procurement,drinking-,non potable-and wastewater,healthy building,green cityscapes and beauty,the young and the old:a social challenge,farmland and open space policies.
